I'm trying to create a repository for my readme in profile, but it says "The repository has been retired and cannot be used"
What can I do??

Check if you recently changed usernames; if so, wait a bit and try again, or temporarily change to another username, create the repo, then switch back.

If it still fails, open a ticket at GitHub Support and tell them you’re trying to create your profile README repo and see the “has been retired and cannot be reused” error.

Hi Yossi! This error usually happens for one of two reasons. Here is how you can fix it:

1. Check the Repository Name
   To create a Profile README, the repository name must match your GitHub username exactly. * If your username is Yossi-Batash, the repo name must be Yossi-Batash.

If you are trying to name it something like "README" or "Profile," GitHub might throw an error because those aren't the correct names for the "Special Repository" feature.

2. The "Ghost" Repository Glitch
   If you recently deleted a repository with that same name, GitHub’s system might still think it exists in a "retired" state.

The Fix: Try waiting 24 hours for the namespace to clear.

Alternative: Check if you have any "Archived" repositories with that name in your settings and delete them permanently.

3. Check for Case Sensitivity
   Ensure the casing matches exactly. If your username has a capital letter, the repo name should too.

Steps to try right now:

Go to github.com/new.

Type Yossi-Batash in the Repository Name box.

Make sure it is set to Public.

Check the box that says "Initialize this repository with a README."

If it still says "Retired," you may need to contact GitHub Support, as your specific username might have a unique naming restriction on their backend.
